Moving Tips
- Take a long hard look at what you really want to keep and what you've kept for
years past its usefulness. There is of course an added advantage of getting rid of items that have
passed their sell by date. You may be able to sell them and taking less may reduce the removal
charge.
- Draw a floor plan of your new home and name each room so that it can be identified
by the removal crew. That way items will be delivered to the right location.
- Clearly label particularly large items and mark on the floor plan the position
you want them in, in a particular room.
- Don't use cartons that are very large.
- Don't overload cartons.
- Mark on cartons what is in them.
- Mark on cartons in which room they are to be left.
- Mark on cartons information such as ‘Fragile’, ‘This Way
Up’ etc.
Packing Tips
Clean
all items to be stored, and defrost and thoroughly dry equipment such as refrigerators.
- Pack electrical equipment carefully, and in the original packaging if possible.
- Do not pack flammable substances such as gas, paint or fuel as it could affect
or cancel your insurance.
- Avoid packing perishable items or anything which could encourage vermin.
- Remove all loose items from wardrobes, but leave clothes in drawers or hanging
in wardrobes.
- Ensure that self-assembly furniture is flat-packed where required before being
moved.
- Coastline has a policy of recycling to protect the environment and keep costs
down. Please do not throw away boxes or materials, as we will arrange collection.
- Do allow plenty of time to pack, so it is all finished before your removal day.
- If you have parking problems or restrictions, please inform Coastline and your
local authority. Also inform your neighbours, as you are responsible to ensure that the removal
vehicle can park outside your house.
- Pack money, jewellery, collections etc. and take them with you. Do not put any
important papers i.e. deeds, passports, drivers licence, birth certificates into storage.
- Do not forget to contact tradesmen to disconnect electrical and plumbing supplies.
- Try to arrange for safety reasons to leave children and pets with family or
friends.
- Remember to empty the loft prior to your move as this is often forgotten and
Health & Safety prevents us carrying items up and down ladders and walking on beams.
- Please do not pack your kettle, as removals can be very strenuous and long
so a hot or cold drink can be most welcome. But no alcohol please!
